Lightning Fibre Donates £500 to Pass It On in Your Community

Pass It On in Your Community is a local CIC (Community Interest Company) at the heart of Hailsham – and Lightning Fibre is delighted to have donated £500 to boost the amazing work they do in our community.

The group has quickly become an important part of the town, making everyday essentials more accessible to local people. By redistributing surplus food, clothing (including school uniform) and books, free of charge, Pass It On provides practical support that makes a real difference to households across Hailsham.

How does it work?

Pass It On enables local people to collect one bag full of food each day per household, no questions asked. They are currently averaging around 2,000 bags a week, with between 70 and 90 households supported each day.

Donations come from across the community: individuals, allotment owners with surplus fruit and veg and major supermarkets such as Asda, Tesco, Waitrose, Co-op, Sainsbury’s and Lidl.

The fridge is open to everyone from 10am to 1pm every day(except Christmas Day), providing a welcoming and accessible space.

Making a Difference in Hailsham

Pass It On was founded in 2022 by three local women who wanted to give something back after experiencing tough times themselves.

From their base at The Old Forge on Hailsham High Street, the team now runs a community fridge, a clothes bank and a small library.

Everything is operated by volunteers, including Founding Director Zoe and her team, who dedicate their time to keeping the doors open and the shelves stocked.

The impact has been remarkable. In the past year alone, the group has saved more than 82 tonnes of food from going to waste, redistributing around 32,000 bags of food across the community.

How our donation will help

Our donation will help to support paying for electricity for the fridges and freezers, buying supplies for Christmas gifts for children and buying additional fruit and vegetables.

The Lightning Fibre team had raised some money by being involved in the Hailsham Run in the Spring of 2025. We asked the previous town mayor, and current Councillor Paul Holbrook, to nominate a local cause to donate to, because we wanted to show our gratitude for all the wonderful work he did.

He told us about Pass It On in Your Community. Paul had frequently backed the group during his time in office and also been a volunteer himself.

Our Chief Community Officer, Rob Reaks, said:

Pass It On is a shining example of a supportive community in action. We’re proud to help and grateful to Paul for introducing us to such a fantastic cause.

Community at the Heart of What We Do

Lightning Fibre remains committed to supporting the communities where we work and live. We’re proud members of the Hailsham Chamber of Commerce and giving back to local initiatives like Pass It On is an important part of our promise.

We have also recently supported Environment Hailsham and their blooming marvellous team!  Read our blog.
