How do I test my broadband speed?

You can test your broadband speed here.

A wired connection (using an Ethernet cable) will give you significantly better results than on wireless connection. We recommend using only one PC or laptop device on your network, at a time, when testing. Note that older devices sometimes struggle with 1Gb speeds.

Please be aware that certain antivirus and firewall software could impact the result of your speed test. Make sure the device you’re using isn’t updating or running other background apps or software, using up bandwidth.

Speed test over wired connection

Connect your PC to the back of the router using a Lan cable. Go to Speed Test and perform the speed test. Don’t open any other application on your PC during the speed test.

Speed test over wireless connection

Connect your device to the Tenda wireless network. We recommend the 5GHz frequency. Please keep your device close to the Wi-Fi router when performing the speed test. For the best signal level, please keep within 2 metres of the router. Go to Speed Test and perform the speed test. Don’t open any other application on your PC during the speed test.

What affects your Wi-Fi Speed?

There are many factors that can affect your Wi-Fi, including the distance from your router and any walls in between, and interference from other devices nearby, such as microwaves, wireless game controllers, baby monitors and even fish tanks.

The best way to maximise your experience is via a wired connection to the router. This way you’ll always get a faster and more stable speed.

What is the difference between a wired and a wireless (Wi-Fi) connection?

To achieve the optimum speeds, we recommend a wired connection to the router, using an ethernet cable.

There is no interference with a wired connection unlike a wireless connection.

A wireless signal is affected by distance and interference from other devices in the vicinity.

This is because each Wi-Fi device connects to a wireless channel and, when other devices use the same channel, it can influence the quality of your connections.

All of these are factors that can affect your speed.
