Eastbourne Bonfire 2026 Marks 25 Years of Tradition

Lightning Fibre is pleased to be supporting this year's Eastbourne Bonfire, which takes place on Saturday 3 October 2026.

Organised by Eastbourne Bonfire Society, the free, family-friendly event starts with a torchlit procession at 7.30pm from The Crown on Royal Parade, heading towards Treasure Island before returning along Royal Parade to the Eastbourne Lifeboat Museum.

Celebrating 25 years

2026 marks the 25th anniversary of Eastbourne Bonfire Society. Since being re-established in 2001, the society has become a much-anticipated part of the town's calendar, helping to raise thousands of pounds for local charities and good causes.

The volunteers at EBS spend much of the year supporting events and fundraising activities. Earlier this year they attended the 999 Festival and they will also be at Airbourne. Their commitment helps ensure this long-standing tradition continues for future generations.

Visitors will also be able to pick up a special 25th anniversary edition of the Eastbourne Bonfire Event Programme, produced to mark the silver jubilee year.

Preparation behind the scenes

There is far more to Eastbourne Bonfire than the procession itself. Preparations take place throughout the year, with volunteers giving up countless hours behind the scenes.

During the winter months, the society has been preparing more than 3,000 torch handles by cutting timber to size. Volunteers spend weekends cutting old hessian coffee sacks into strips to create torch heads.

In late June, more than 30 members gathered for a torch-making camping weekend, assembling the thousands of torches that will eventually light up Eastbourne seafront.

Members of the Eastbourne Bonfire Society prepare this years torch handles.

Sussex bonfire season

The annual event attracts thousands of spectators and visiting societies from across Sussex and beyond. Families, residents and visitors line the seafront to enjoy the atmosphere, costumes, music and spectacle.

Emma Pearce, Head of Marketing at Lightning Fibre, said:

"Eastbourne Bonfire is one of the town's great traditions. The amount of work that goes on behind the scenes is remarkable, and we're delighted to support the volunteers who make it happen and the charities that benefit from it."
