Winning Artwork Unveiled on Lightning Fibre Cabinet for Hailsham Festival Launch

Saturday 6th September saw the launch of the Hailsham Festival of Arts & Culture, and the announcement of the winner of the School Art Competition both sponsored by Lightning Fibre.

Wealden MP and Deputy Speaker of the House of Commons, Nusrat Ghani, unveiled the winning artwork, which is now wrapping a prominent broadband cabinet in the town centre.

The winning design was created by Gwen, a student at Heathfield Community College. Her beautiful work is now a wonderful piece of community art at the top of the High Street where hundreds of local people will see it every day.

The artwork showcases a school of tropical fish and features wonderful detail and depth. It is a great representation of the Lightning Fibre competition theme of ‘Community’.

Local MP Unveils Cab

After unveiling the cab to reveal the artwork, Nusrat Ghani MP said:

“Hailsham Festival is a fantastic event, celebrating local arts and culture, and attracting thousands of visitors every year. A huge thank you to all volunteers and organisers for putting together a rich programme for everyone to enjoy.

Lightning Fibre is a key supporter of our local communities and I’m pleased that they are not only helping to build the infrastructure needed for full fibre broadband and improving connectivity for thousands of people in and around Hailsham, but they are also involved in supporting the Festival and many other key local events.

The School Art Competition is a wonderful initiative, encouraging young artists to showcase their skills and I would like to extend my warmest congratulations to Gwen, whose spectacular design now brightens up the network cabinet on the High Street.”

Our Head of Marketing, Emma Pearce, was also there to congratulate Gwen and highlight why supporting matters to us:

“Gwen’s is a very lovely young lady who was delighted to see her work on show – a great surprise on the day! You can see the original artwork in Gallery North – along with all the wonderful entries to the competition.

We do encourage everyone to take a look at the very varied Festival programme. There is so much to see – and many events are free. We’re proud to back initiatives that celebrate local talent and community spirit, alongside keeping homes and businesses connected with our full-fibre network.”
