Lightning Fibre Goes the Extra Mile at the 2025 Hastings Half Marathon

Miles of Smiles

What a fantastic day it was for this year’s Hastings Half Marathon on Sunday 5th October! The sun was shining brightly over the seafront, and although a strong coastal wind made the final few miles a little tougher for the runners, the atmosphere was electric from start to finish.

Organised by the Hastings Lions Club and delivered with support from the Nice Work team and a huge number of incredible volunteers, the Hastings Half Marathon continues to be one of the most-loved community events in East Sussex.

More than 2,000 runners took on the scenic and challenging 13.1-mile course this year, cheered on by hundreds of enthusiastic spectators all along the route - from the lively drummers on Queensway to the cheering crowds around Harrow Lane roundabout and through Ore Village.

Running on Sunshine

Lightning Fibre are proud to have sponsored this much-loved event for the very first time. Our community team anchored themselves in the bustling race village on Sea Road, St Leonards, right near the Start/Finish line, which also had upbeat music and the big community warm-up for the runners.

We loved chatting with so many participants, supporters and local residents about the event and the availability of our full fibre network in the area.

A Local Effort with Global Impact

This annual race isn’t just about running - it’s about raising funds for fantastic causes. Since March 2024, the Hastings Lions Club has donated over £64,000 to local organisations and even international disaster appeals in Morocco, Pakistan, Ukraine and many others. That’s an incredible achievement!

Flying the Lightning Fibre Flag

We were also thrilled to have one of our own colleagues, Josh, representing Team Lightning Fibre on the course!

Josh put in a brilliant performance, finishing the half marathon in an impressive 1 hour, 44 minutes and 33 seconds - and, true to tradition, he celebrated afterwards with 20 chicken nuggets from a well-known fast-food restaurant. A well-earned reward, if you ask us!

Our Head of Marketing, Emma Pearce, summed up the day:

“We’re so proud to have supported the Hastings Half Marathon this year. It’s such a special community event that brings people together from all over the area. Every year it seems to get better and even more inspiring - and it’s fantastic to see the positive impact it has locally.”

From Start Line to Online

Sponsoring events like this is a big part of our ongoing commitment to the towns and communities where our full fibre broadband network is thriving.

A huge well done to everyone who took part, volunteered, or cheered from the sidelines -and special thanks to the organisers for delivering such a well-run, positive event that truly celebrates the long-running (pun intended!) spirit of Hastings.

If this year’s race has inspired you, good news - entries are already open for next year’s Hastings Half Marathon, taking place on Sunday 22nd March 2026. There’s plenty of time to get your training miles in before then!
