How Lightning Fibre is Reducing Waste

How Lightning Fibre is Reducing Waste

Sustainability is a key focus at Lightning Fibre, and we’ve made good progress in two areas.

Thanks to the work of Gary Phethean, our Procurement Manager, waste sent to landfill each quarter is down 98% compared with 2025, meaning 94% of our waste is now diverted from landfill.

Our electricity is also 100% renewable, with establishing a full carbon baseline the next step in our work to understand and reduce our wider environmental impact.

Gary has been leading work to improve how waste is managed across the business. This includes training staff, separating different types of waste and regularly reporting on how waste is disposed of.

“The biggest problem with waste is that it ends up in landfill, and here at Lightning Fibre, we don’t want that to happen.”

Reducing Landfill Waste Across the Business

The work also covers what happens before something becomes waste. Lightning Fibre is reviewing the materials used across the business and looking at where items can be reused rather than replaced.

Changes have already been made to some waste streams, with further improvements being considered across day-to-day operations and the wider supply chain.

The aim for 2026 is for no waste from Lightning Fibre to end up in landfill. That means continuing to reduce the materials we use, reuse what we can and make sure other waste is separated and sent to the right place.

There is still work to do, but the reduction in landfill waste so far shows how changes to everyday working practices can make a measurable difference.
