Eastbourne’s Christmas Lights: A Magical Opportunity for Young Artists
The festive season is just around the corner, and Eastbourne is getting ready for it's annual Christmas lights switch-on.
This year, for the first time, local children have a special opportunity to get involved - they can design one of the town’s Christmas lamppost lights themselves!
Organised by Your Eastbourne BID and sponsored for the first time by Lightning Fibre, the competition is set to bring extra sparkle to the town centre.
Your Eastbourne BID is the local business improvement district that supports and promotes the town centre.
A Creative Competition for Children
Children aged 4–11 in local Eastbourne schools have been invited to design a Christmas light inspired by Peter Pan - which is this year's panto!
Designs can include characters like Tinkerbell and Captain Hook’s crocodile - with suggested colours of yellow, blue, green, red, orange, and pink.
The winner’s design will be turned into a real lamppost light in the town, and they’ll receive a family ticket to the Devonshire Park pantomime, along with the honour of switching on Eastbourne’s Christmas lights on Saturday 29th November.
The lamppost motif will initially be located on Bankers Corner, before being displayed outside the Devonshire Park Theatre for panto season.
The deadline for entries is 5th October. Entry forms have been sent to schools, but if your child hasn’t received a form at school, families can download one and return it by email to info@youreastbournebid.com.

Festive Fun for Everyone
The Christmas lights switch-on takes place on Saturday 29th November, and promises an evening of festive cheer. Alongside the big moment when the lights are switched on, the town centre will feature live music, children’s rides, stalls and plenty of seasonal activities for all ages. The reveal of the competition winner, sponsored by Lightning Fibre, will be a real highlight.
