Eastbourne Ranks 23rd out of 650 Areas in the UK for Broadband Connectivity

There is very positive news for Eastbourne in the latest national broadband data published by ThinkBroadband.

The independent report confirms that Eastbourne ranks 23rd out of 650 UK locations (within the top 3.5%) for broadband coverage, with 99.9 per cent superfast availability and 90 per cent Gigabit and Full Fibre to the Premises (FTTP) coverage.

Lightning Fibre, based in Eastbourne since 2018, launched the town’s first FTTP network and offers residential and business broadband with speeds of up to 10 Gbps. The continued growth of full fibre coverage locally is a positive sign for the town’s digital future.

Eastbourne ranks 23rd in the UK for superfast and gigabit broadband coverage

The findings are part of ThinkBroadband’s new report, UK Superfast and Fibre Coverage, which monitors broadband rollout across councils and constituencies nationwide. Across the UK as a whole, Gigabit coverage has now reached 90.11%.

ThinkBroadband, an independent UK-based website providing comprehensive broadband news, ISP listings, and comparison tools since 2001, said:

“Our tracking of the UK and its constituent councils and 650 constituencies has the UK at 90 per cent Gigabit broadband coverage as of 25th February 2026.

90 per cent Gigabit coverage is a significant milestone on the way to the political ambition of 99 per cent Gigabit for 2032, and follows on from the UK reaching the 85 per cent milestone back in October 2024.”

The top locations in the UK for superfast and gigabit broadband coverage

New data from ThinkBroadband, has the UK at 90.11% for Gigabit coverage (1000+ Mbps - megabits per second).

A Strong Position for Eastbourne

Superfast broadband refers to services delivering at least 30Mbps, supporting everyday activities such as streaming, browsing and home working. Gigabit broadband delivers speeds of 1000Mbps or more, providing even greater capacity for busy households and businesses.

With near universal superfast coverage and 90% full fibre availability, Eastbourne is clearly in a strong position. This level of infrastructure ensures that the vast majority of residents and organisations can access fast, reliable connectivity.

Understanding Full Fibre

Not all fibre services are the same. Some fibre networks still rely partly on older copper cables. Full fibre, also known as FTTP (Fibre to the Premises), uses fibre optic cables all the way to the property, improving speed consistency and reliability.

With the UK’s planned withdrawal of the copper network already underway, moving to full fibre will increasingly become the standard for homes and businesses. Expanding FTTP coverage locally helps ensure Eastbourne is well prepared for the national transition.
