About this role:

Lightning Fibre is recruiting a Senior Civils Supervisor to join the team in Eastbourne. This role reports to the Construction Manager.

Lightning Fibre is the leading local alternative network for Full Fibre broadband in East Sussex. We are headquartered in Eastbourne where our existing broadband network is. Our broadband network has the ability to supply everyone with not just 1 Gigabit broadband but with multi Gigabits and not just download either, uploads too.
We are a community orientated network operator, whose aim is to significantly upgrade our regions broadband infrastructure, providing local jobs and acting as a vital enabler to grow our digital local economy, thereby creating further quality jobs. Lightning Fibre has bold plans afoot with Eastbourne and Hastings at the forefront

The role primary purpose / key tasks and responsibilities:

  • Deliver infrastructure end-to-end
  • Take direct responsibility for managing Construction teams and matrix managing the Design team
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with Highways and collaborate with the overall council engagement
  • Become the driving force behind innovative solutions for problems escalated by our Contract Partners
  • Champion excellence in Health, Safety, Environment and Quality
  • Find ways to streamline our processes and discover new ways of being more efficient
  • Implement and run large scale construction programmes
  • Manage the operational relationships with all suppliers and put in place monitoring
  • Experience of planning and controlling
  • Coach and support the build partner, ensuring any ‘blockers’ to the plan are highlighted and escalated
  • Update daily/weekly reports and review against the project delivery milestones, highlighting any risks to the Build Manager
  • Ensure principal contractors have site-specific method statements and risk assessments in place
  • Liaise with the public, dealing with any issues that the network construction activities may have caused
  • Valuing work executed by contractors and certifying interim and final payments
  • Supporting the authorisation and submission of project variations
  • Assessing, reviewing and mitigating commercial and contractual risks through implementing our policies for risk management
  • Extracting failed inspections from Symology
  • Tracking the progress of associated remedial work
  • Reporting on the status of defects registered
  • Producing a weekly report for our build teams on the volume of outstanding defects, defects outstanding over agreed SLA and number of defects completed within SLA
  • Conducting root cause analysis to demonstrate factors contributing to quality inadequacies

Education and/or Work Experience Requirements

You’ll have experience managing Contract Partners, Capital Budgets, Construction, and ideally, Fibre Networks. You’re a proven leader and motivator, able to progress people and communicate across all levels of our business. You’ll represent our business in everything you do, so you’ll share our passion for connecting cities, as well as having;

  • Civil Engineering experience
  • Council and Highways engagement experience
  • A history of managing a budget
  • Experience of managing contractors
  • Fibre Optic experience
  • NRSWA Street Works Supervisor Certification, Units 1, 10-16
  • Experience in a similar local-market driven business
  • Experience of CRM systems such as Salesforce
